Notes from the Nurses' Office
Welcome back to school! There are 3 registered nurses that staff our Health Room (Mrs. Karen Shouse, RN; Mrs. Karen Munter, RN; Mrs. Brittany Roper, RN) and we are all here to assist with your child's health and well-being. Please feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions or concerns about your student. Our email is: nurse@staug-md.org
Health Tips for Your Student's Success
- Get 8-10 hours of sleep each night
- Eat breakfast
- Limit sugar/sugar filled beverages and snacks; choose healthier snacks
- Make time for relaxation and family
- Avoid processed junk food (eat real food instead!)
- Drink plenty of water
A few friendly reminders:
- Please do not send in sodas or ice tea at any time.
- Send in a healthy snack for your student (no desserts, candy or juice at snack time).
- Middle school students do not have a snack time unless medically necessary.
- Our classrooms are nut restricted; no nut/nut products may be consumed during snack time.
- To help promote a healthy lifestyle and be considerate of the many allergies our students deal with, we allow "non-food' birthday surprises only.
Lastly, remember the 24 hour rule:
- Children must be free of fever (under 100 degrees), vomiting, and diarrhea without the use of medication for 24 hours before returning to school after an illness.
- In the case of pink eye or other bacterial infections, the student must be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Thank you for your amazing partnership.
Best Wishes from the nurse team!
I hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed week ahead!
Thanks,
Mr. Joseph Miller
